Square 6 inserts can be set to achieve a true 90 deg setting angle, creating clean 90 deg walls the first time and eliminating secondary operations. All inserts can be indexed 2 x 3 times to offer six cutting edges.
Seco Tools (Troy, MI) offers the Square 6™ shoulder milling cutter with trigonal inserts with six cutting edges to boost productivity and lower the cost per edge, delivering parts for less. With three different insert geometries and three different pitches, Square 6 is a reliable, cost-effective, first choice tool for a variety of general machining operations including face milling, contouring, plunging, slotting, and square shoulder milling. This flexibility allows users to carry less inventory and reduce tool changes to gain productivity.
The Square 6 cutter bodies come in a diameter range of 40 mm to 160 mm (1.5 in to 6.0 in). The bodies are nickel-coated to provide longer tool life, and pre-hardened to meet tighter tolerances and increase reliability that results in higher precision parts. The bodies come in coarse pitch for unstable conditions, normal pitch, and close pitch for strong machines, cast iron materials, and high metal removal rates.
With the Square 6, inserts can be set to achieve a true 90 deg setting angle, creating clean 90 deg walls the first time and eliminating secondary operations. The inserts lock into place with a strong center screw that is placed in the same direction as the cutting forces, and wiper flats offer better surface finish. All inserts can be indexed 2x3 times to offer six cutting edges.
There are three insert geometries available with the Square 6 including ME09 for stainless steel, M13 for steel and cast iron and MD15 for harder materials and high cutting speeds. Each of the insert styles feature two different corner radii for improved reliability. The R0.8 is appropriate for normal conditions, but the R1.6 can handle tougher cutting applications.
Cutting tool solutions provider Seco Tools Inc. is dedicated to helping its customer achieve productivity gains, documenting over $41 million in cost savings for its customers in 2008 and winning the 2008 American Eagle Value-Added Partner Award from the Industrial Supply Association (ISA).
