U.S. Contracting Company Breaks into Wind Tower Fabrication Market

T Bailey (Anacortes, WA) recently began bringing its heavy construction experience to the wind power generation industry, fabricating wind towers. The towers, typically measuring between 180 and 240 ft, are made up of three or more sections, each made up of six or more “cans.” These cans are submerged arc welded longitudinally before being circumferentially welded together. Each step of the process requires quality welds to meet exact testing standards due to environmental conditions, while growing demand requires increases in productivity.

Utilizing Lincoln Electric’s Power Wave® AC/DC 1000 submerged arc power source and Lincoln Electric’s P223 flux and Lincolnweld® L-S3 electrode, the company realized an increase in productivity from higher deposition rates. Due to its strategic decisions, the company is now poised and ready to help the United States meet its growing need for domestically produced energy.
