TORSION-RESISTANT, TIN-PLATED COPPER SHIELDED ROBOT CABLE

Igus® has developed a shielded robot cable for applications involving high levels of torsion. Chainflex® CF Robot is designed for both robotic and non-robotic applications, such as rotary tables or spindle drives that have to be supplied with high power levels. In contrast to conventional braided copper shields, which are counter-wound, a torsion-resistant tin-plated copper shield sheath is used with CF Robot.

The forces affected on the cable by any torsional movement are largely absorbed by sliding and buffer elements between the sheath, shield and insulation. This prevents early failure of the shield. The outer sheath material is a high-grade TPE mixture with particularly good wear properties. The twistable cable has already been tested in the igus technical center through more than three million torsional movements to +/- 270 deg.

CF Robot is an ideal companion to igus’ Triflex® R cable carrier, which is designed to protect moving cables and hoses on 6-axis robots used in demanding industrial environments. Triflex R is able to move through all axes and can twist up to 380 deg per yard, enabling easy movement through complex configurations. The smooth, tubular design also permits the cable carrier to glide around the exterior of a robot without catching.
